Gogama, Ontario - Canoe Routes

These three canoe routes are no longer maintained by the Ministry of Natural Resources and they do not provide maps for these. The condition of these routes is unknown and are shown on this website for information purposes only. Not that it ever was really maintained...

Persons paddling this river still must pay 9$/day/p.p.

Paying for services not rendered, that will never be rendered? Not bloody likely. It's as if that $9 fee is just there to keep people out.

I drove through that way last month, from Kapuskasing to Sudbury. There's quite a bit of new mining activity down that way. I actually had no idea how much mining there was in the area, it's full of gold and silver mines there. Not quite Val D'or levels, but still, lots of mines.

How old is this? The Spanish seemed pretty well maintained last year.

There is nothing on the Spanish to "maintain" other than the Thuunderboxes and many of them were put there by "Friends Of The Spanish River" BEFORE it was a pay-to-play PP.

If you have a bit of whitewater experience there are only two portages on the lower river (below the Forks), none on the upper East Branch and just a few on the West Branch, all are so well used they really don't need maintaining.

I was just surprised that they made it "formal". Nothing else has changed. And we were thrilled with the work of the "friends" over the years.
