After leaving at 3:30am, driving 10 hours, paddling 2 more hours into a stiff headwind on Santoy, and the dreaded Diablo portage, I was rewarded with a fine display the first night on Diablo Lake. Sorry about the quality, handheld @ 15" exposure.

Another sunny day, and beautiful evening. I believe that's the first day of my life I've gone without seeing another soul. Much introspection.

Image

My "leave no trace" fire  Someone left a profusion of 8' logs, so I burnt them in half to use over the next few days. My still recovering arm was wasted, or I woulda cut them. I left a nice saw on the island for the next folks to use...hey, is that a crappy Spitfire tent with no vestibule :P

Image

Steel River Falls coming out of Santoy, running very low. Caught a nice 6 lb pike trolling back down Santoy. I looked back and my rod was doubled over, I had been trolling with a dipsy + 15lb test and the drag was way too tight! Let him go in the water, felt bad for dragging him along.

Image

Stayed at Pukaskwa one night, this storm snuck up on me while hiking the coastal trail near Playter Harbor.

Image

Wasn't sure what I'd think of a solo trip, but it was a great time, and I thought about those at home all the more.

Put your url address, then highlight it and choose the <img> button. It has to be an image hosted by a website, I use imagecave.

How was the Little Pic? I stayed at Neys one night, and paddled up the L. Pic as far as the first swifts, a family of mad beavers harassed me both up and down

Thanks for the excellent photo share. I did something similar many years ago solo in early July. I remember sitting outside and having a late fire after a long day and still had plenty of natural light at 10:30 before lighting the fire. Just an awesome part of the province. I utilize photobucket.com for a picture hosting site.

Makes me homesick for Diablo...we always run the trip with the kids from the north down to Diablo....Diablo is the highlight of the trip.....love that little lake...those eight footers were cut by me probably, when we were clearing the blowdown....left quite a bit of firewood cut up there, but that site is used a fair amount. Never seen the water that low going over the falls.......there is a cute little campsite there too...

Otter Mel,

After eating my Black Bean Chili, you will have all the warmth you want.

Plenty of wood left, Mel. I left some of the easier pieces for those who may not have a saw or time to burn it in half. I left a good saw too, on purpose, feel free to take it along if you wish or leave it for the next guy. My theory is, if each person left one useful item at each campsite in the bush, pretty soon all you'd need is a sleeping bag and tent, each campsite would be fully stocked
I actually froze a couple nights, it got down very close to freezing, and my super duper new ultralight weight bag was only rated for 45ºF.

Thanks,
Now the only thing I need is a woman to keep me warm and not some beans :-?
We'll leave the saw, we're bringing our own.

GWA,

Why don't you like the spitfire tent? I was gonna buy one, it's very light - right?
