I finally picked up my own canoe (opposed to using my dads Coleman slug) and got out for my first paddle of 2017. Its a new-to-me Nova Craft Prospector 16. Just had a nice relaxing morning paddle at Deer Creek Conservation Area. The park is closed until May, but after a 250 meter portage from the gate to the water, I had the entire place to myself. Its a beautiful little area with 25 hectares of water. Great for spending a few hours exploring and having a shore lunch. Looking forward to getting the kids out for lots of paddling in 2017 and posting here more often!

Lucky indeed! I was born and raised in Tillsonburg and spent a lot of time at Deer Creek CA as a kid. It's a little gem that a lot of folks don't know about.

It sure is a hidden gem, beautiful little place.

Have you spent any time on the lower end of Big Creek from Rowan Mills down to Port Royal? Thats another favourite of mine. Also looking to paddle the Otter for the first time this year soon.
