We park at the bridge all the time and have not had any problems. It is getting to be a busy route now that you can access by the all weather road.
Shallow Lake is a fairly easy goal for one day travel. There are three good campsites along the way. One at the double port, #3 if I remember right, then another just after that, and then again at the falls. We usually stay at the mouth of the river where it meets the lake if we go that far or the falls if not.
Excellent trip. Thanks for scouting it out for us pappookaroo.

Thanks to those who have shared this info.

When the first report from 2012 was posted I didn't live in Wpg, but I do now and am looking for trips like this (especially if going to Ontario/ELA will be a problem due to COVID-19 limitations) - trips that aren't heavily used, have some interesting features like falls, have frequent camping spots, and are within a reasonable distance for a weekend trip. When time allows I hope to explore up to Shallow Lake and also down to the islands on the lake, that looks interesting too.

Any updates on the route or whether changes in the road have impacted use of the river?

Thanks again, great info.
