I only learned of this yesterday and wanted to let others know. I am sure that some here will have flown with Jonathon at Bluewater out of Bissett, Manitoba.

Eyewitness account:

Angel Compton lives on Little Grand Rapids First Nation and saw the crash while she was having breakfast.

"We were just having coffee and looked out the window and there was a plane and it looked to be making a really strange turn and all of a sudden the wing fell off one side and then it started to go down," she explained.

"I ran to the porch and looked outside and saw it go down behind the trees and then I heard a loud bang.

The wing fell off??? WTF??

Very sad. He was our pilot and that was likely the Otter we flew in on when we paddled the Pigeon River this past summer. He seemed like a very decent guy. Our thoughts are with his family.

I just stumbled across this, very sorry to hear about the crash and the lives lost. Jonathan was the pilot for our trip last summer on the Bloodvein. He did a fantastic job flying us safely to the river and even gave us his cell phone number in case we had an emergency to contact him with inReach.

I have a friend from the area who was friends with him; it hit the community very hard. I believe his wife is also a pilot with Bluewater. I also have a relative that died in the crash. Death is never easy on families but a crash like this seems particularly hard.
