We have a 7-day trip planned for August and are looking at Circuit 37 (map 3) and wish to extend the circuit by a couple of days.
Has anyone deviated from circuit 37 at Lake Camitogama? (lower left hand corner of Map 3) and if so can you hook back up with Circuit 37 or do you have to do an out and back.

Thanks!

Its been a real long time but I exited 35-37 and did some of the Reservoir Dozis and then looped back to Grand Barrage. The part between Map 3 and 4 is a topo map available at Le Domaine. And probably other places too

I loaned my maps to a friend in the next town and I think he is up there canoeing.

Topo maps and Google.. doesnt seem like Camitogama River loops back in.
Please let us know if you do it, the landscape seems very interesting there

My google map may be of some assistance - I also don't see a way back around other than that 8 km portage :-)

I received this from Laverendrye:

I drew a line on this map, which shows what was referred to in the reply I received from the park.

And then you do the 595m portage from Catawose connecting back into Camitogama (37 into 35)?

35 is a great loop. I've combined it with 30 to make a longer trip. That last portion of the loop, aka the shared section which is 37 and 30 is so so so bad. Its all swamp, flooded land. I really didn't like it.

What do you intend on doing? 37 all the way around or the portage into 35 then 30?

Neat - I'm going to update my map with that - but in a different colour to designate it is non-official

We haven't finalized our plans but most likely 37 with some sort of add-on.
Leaving on Aug. 3 or 4. The SEPAQ strike, if there is one, doesn't look like it will affect our plans.

Nice to see you did that off circuit excursion! I missed your post initially - off exploring. We did that same little section a few years ago when we were poking around old routes. I remember seeing that old portage into Cawatose, but we opted for lining up instead. I don't really remember it, but my notes on the map said it was an easy line - perhaps not respectful to the bottom of the canoe, but if it avoids a portage! We stayed on the creek coming back down too, just one lift-over as far as I remember.
