My wife and I are leaving in the morning and will be working our way to the Yukon . When we get there we are planning on paddling the Big Salmon River and the Yukon River to Dawson City. Will keep a log and will try to post a trip report when we return.

I'll be looking forward to reading your report.

Have you read a book called "Yukon Solo" by Karel Dohnal? It was published in 1984 about a solo trip in 1973. The author went down the Big Salmon River to the Yukon and then nearly all the way to the Bering Sea. It might make for an interesting comparison of conditions between then and now.

I think it's out of print, but I got a copy through the out of print section of the Barnes & Noble web site.

Good luck

I have read Yukon solo and this is where I first got the idea for this trip several years ago. We did consider other routes but this one seems like it should be good for my wife because of the limited portages .

Another excellent book of the Yukon River area is "Reading The River" by John Hildebrand.

I've listed a link below, hope it works.
