Post subject:  Anyone paddled the Hornaday River?

Has anyone or does anyone know of someone who has paddled the Hornaday and portaged the canyons at the end? We want to paddle the entire river and then portage around the canyons and paddle to Paulatuk. I am looking for info on here and see practically nothing about this river. Why is this? (We would likely only attempt this if we can afford pakboats) Any info on this or resources would be much appreciated!

Additionally, if this turns out the be feasible we would like to find a route from Great Bear Lake into the headwaters of the Hornaday. We don't mind portaging at all. Any suggestions?

Thanks a ton!

Great idea--look for a route out of Great Bear Lake.

You could inquiry with the fishing lodge about a flight in to the headwaters....

If agree, pakboats would be the way to go.

My guess is very little traffic due to the flight cost in (from Norman Wells?) and the canyons as well as the coastal paddle to Paulatuk

Paulatuk of course you fly out commercial, which is good.

Time to pull out the maps and scheme a route to the headwaters...

Thanks for your response Brian!

Yes yes got the maps out! We were investigating the Bloody River and the Haldane as options out of GBL into the Hornaday. Heard of them?

No I have not heard of those two rivers but you have to take notice and wonder about any River called Bloody!
