I'm worried to read this. We recently met Dan at COS this year, such a nice young man. I hope for the best outcome in the search.

I have reposted the Ottertooth link on Facebook to hopefully broaden the search for useful information.

Hi all

This kid is missing and has no camping gear with him.
They found his car parked on the Red Squirrel Road but no sign of him.

The parents think that he may be at the "caves"

Does anyone here know where that is ?

thanks
Kim

Alex Mathias tells me that the closest caves are near Smoothwater.

They are assuming that he is bushwhacking out there....somewhere.
No gear...no canoe....no food .....

Very scary situation. The parents are frantic.
The OPP helicopter was resuming the search for Dan this am.

Bear Island has been informed of his disappearance as well.

I dont get it. No gear or food ? How is he supposed to survive what is now about 2 weeks with no food even if he made it to these 'caves' ?
What about clothing ? This isn't cool fall temps anymore . Must be below freezing at night . And 28 yrs old ain't no kid anymore. Any talk of his psychological state of late ?

Yes.
He has problems.

I first met him at the Changing of the Seasons in September.
He had been paddling solo for a few weeks when he arrived at the gathering .
He was all geared up and fine then.

Not so now.

I really hope he is found safe....and that this doesn't end up like the tragedy with the young man near Huntsville a few years ago....I can only imagine the feelings of Dan's parents....as Kim said this is a very scary situation....

Kim, wasn't Dan at the FOT AGM????

Dan did not attend the AGM .
He was at the Changing of the Seasons on Obabika in September.
Seemed fine then .......

The OPP are searching Bob Lake and Obabika Lakes areas today.

Just a bump up...

The search for Daniel continues and the police are still asking for information from anyone who has seen him in the Temagami area or elsewhere or who might have some clues as to his whereabouts.

For up to date information please go to:

Thank you for your help.

Message from Don and Maureen Trask through the OAC website,

"If you could post the note below, we would appreciate it:

Please be aware that Daniel is very resourceful individual and can fend very well in the wilderness. As a family, we spent many summer vacations on Temagami Lake and most recently he was in this wonderous area canoeing, portaging and making friends with a number of people in the area. Daniel values his life, respects the land, and cherishes what mother nature offers.

Please know that any and all information provided on this site, as well as Ottertooth http://www.ottertooth.com , Friends of Temagami http://www.friendsoftemagami.org, Algonquin Outfitter on Twitter http://twitter.com/algonquinoutfit, and Earthroots on Facebook is very helpful and appreciated.

Through the efforts of many, we remain hopeful that our son Daniel is found soon, safe and sound.

With our gratitude,
Don and Maureen Trask"

also,
If you have any leads, contact the OPP Prov. Communications Centre for the North at 888-310-1122

I don't want to jump to conclusions, but a few years ago a young man disappeared without a trace here in the Quetico-Superior. He had a history of depression and just wandered off into the wilderness on foot. His car was discovered at an entry point, and despite a massive ground and air search no trace of him was ever found.

I fear this may be a similar situation...
