Hey folks, I look at the paddlecan website and cannot find anything about curriculum.

Is that documented somewhere?

If I wanted to get a paddlecan certification what do I need to know?

Look on the home page under the "Courses" tab for a short description of the various courses and certs. The full manuals are only available to instructors.

Yeah I looked at courses and there really was not any detail there at all. Not even really enough info for me to decided whether or not to take a course. I guess the closest I can find is this pictogram near the top of this page

An alternate way to ask what I am asking is this : can someone provide me a full list of the techniques and strokes I should be learning to master?

Start with the first 5 videos..... ... anguage=en

For more details on the actual courses you need to contact an instructor who actually teaches and can offer instruction which meets the Paddle Canada requirements for certification.

Or look at the ORCKA site for their courses:

Find a paddling school or instructor that is offering the Paddle Canada program your are interested (lake, coastal, big canoe, moving water, canoe tripping, piling, etc. ).
For example see the instructor for hire page or the find a course page at the Paddle Canada site.
Make contact with the paddling school or instructor.
Get yourself started by taking a Skills course or Intro Instructor course.

Well that's all a catch 22 - how am I supposed to know what course I want if I don't know what's in the courses?

Now the ORCKA site on the other hand - now THAT is exactly what I'm looking for!!!

I think Paddle Can should have a look at ORCKA and take a lesson.

Prospector16, as a Paddle Canada instructor I see your point. The PC Moving Water description gives a pretty fair idea of the content of the various levels, but the Lake Canoe section lacks detail.

That said, whether you go ORCKA or PC it would be a good idea to talk to an instructor (or the organization head office) before signing up. Both ORCKA and PC allow a good deal of discretion to instructors regarding delivery of training and the aptitude of the students, weather, etc. makes a big difference.
