It is not always other parties we need to make accommodation for. My own party of 3-4 canoes is enough chaos sometimes. If we know it's a single canoe space available for loading we will make sure to get one canoe and it's load across on the first carry. The canoe can be set right in the water and packs dropped right in. That canoe is then tethered away from the loading zone. Repeat the process until all the canoes are loaded. If desired the loaded canoes can be sent ahead to ease congestion at the next portage.

I rarely see another canoe in my travels but still make sure there is an open path to the water,just in case.

Having a dog coming at me with no sign of an owner is frightening. Having an owner yelling at a dog between me and it's master, even scarier.
