Hi,

Last year I displayed the 6-month long 'Les chemins de l'or bleu' canoe expedition on meteoexpe.com.

I would like to do it again with another canoe expedition. It has to last at least one month and preferably use a Spot GPS, but InReach might be ok.

At this moment, I have this expedition in mind: http://pullofthenorth.com/ but I would like to look at other possibilities.

Any proposal?

Bertrand

I'm planning improvements to meteoexpe.com, including an English version.

For those interested,

The summer 2018 expedition selected for display on meteoexpe.com was the Akor Expedition, a 65-day long expedition on the The Pas - George - Koroc river and Labrador coast.

You can view the itinerary here: http://meteoexpe.com/itineraire-akor. You can click on the paddles to get more information. The 'Chemin de l'or bleu' trip is still available here: http://meteoexpe.com/itineraire-les-che ... -lor-bleu/

More info on the Akor Expedition trip:
https://fr-ca.facebook.com/expeditionakor/

This post is also a call for proposal for next summer. Do you know paddlers preparing a very long distance trip? I mean at least a 2 month long expedition. If they would like a similar web page, with real-time position & weather information they can send an email at meteoexpe@gmail.com.

Have you added an English version yet?

For the English version, I'm kind of waiting for an English-speaking expedition. Both expeditions so far were french-speaking. That said, I may translate the whole thing anyway during long winter nights. That may help getting English speaking expeditions.

Besides that bilingual thing, the improvements I would like to implement over the winter are:

1) automatic real-time high-resolution distance calculation. With this, the the accumulated distance during the trip would be displayed in real-time on the map. I have something working but it's not accurate enough, yet.

2) an elevation tracker along the itinerary as this the attached animated gif, and this demo that you can try yourself https://dev.peterscheerer.de/playground ... e_gpx.html

3) add on the itinerary map pictures taken by the expedition members or automatically selected from Flickr along their path as they progress.

4) Add automatic frequent update of visible satellite base map from the Copernicus Sentinel-2 satellite. This can help seeing in near real-time water levels along the shore and around islands, white water and ice coverage. That one was very useful for the Akor expedition since the George river was mostly covered by ice during the first part of their trip. For example, satellite picture was aken 6 days ago for an area just west of Montreal: https://apps.sentinel-hub.com/eo-browse ... el-2%20L1C.

5) real-time water levels from similar to this web site: https://watermonitor.gov/naww/index.php

Once I know the itinerary of an expedition, I usually like to do some research to add information along the proposed itinerary, for examples, hospitals and first-aid resources, portages, canoe clubs, etc..

Bertrand

PS: I've just added a measuring ruler and compass as a tool on the Akor itinerary map. See the the other gif. Works well on desktop.

Ok. It's noted.

Concerning the Akor expedition, their video of them paddling on the Labrador sea passing by a iceberg is amazing. It was taken from a drone. See it there: https://www.facebook.com/expeditionakor ... 365391123/ It is kind of unreal, fake, but it's not. :o

I really enjoyed tracing your route on the Montreal to the Arctic trip.

Thanks!
