I just purchased a 30 year old ultralight that appears have some UV damage to the resin/Kevlar. When you feel along the bottom of the boat the weave of the cloth is apparent and has some blackening, the upper sections are fine (not UV exposed as much). I have had suggestions from West Systems 105 to a marine enamel. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Could you post some pictures? UV usually results in fading and chalkiness of the finish. This sounds like something worse. "Blackening" might be mold under the epoxy or gel coat caused by water getting into the fabric. Also, I've never seen UV damage thinning the epoxy enough so you can feel the fabric.

that hull looks like water got in and developed mold. Looks rough and kind of like blisters. Not UV damage.
I have no helpful tips on fixing that up.
Sanding it down will destroy and fuzz up the Kevlar and render the boat a planter.

Assuming you didn't pay too much for this boat, I would just paint it and use it until it falls apart. I also think that there is mold inside the hull. Whether this is more than simply unsightly is hard to tell from a picture. An epoxy marine paint would be costly, but would add some strength as well as covering everything up.

I got it for next to nothing so not too put out by anything, will paddled fine for a few more years at least, with or without fixing the hull.
