Hopefully. I don't think I'm the only one who's planned a big trip this year in the middle of all this uncertainty.

June 13th is optimistic. The latest emergency order is on until June 9th.

NW Ontario (Kenora - Thunder Bay area) should be Manitoba! It's frustrating here that Winnipegers can't go 2 hours to Ontario backcountry because of virus in Toronto (and I suppose for people in other parts of Ontario who want to go to WCPP etc.). P.

Toronto would like to thank all those who came to Toronto and spread the virus around. Especially those who live in the north and 'never' come to Toronto but seem to know so very much about it. It's nice to know we're all in this together. :D

Not yet, unless of course it is privately owned land. I would guess that they will open it up within the next few weeks otherwise they risk a complete collapse of the 'cottage' country businesses that rely on the city folk to survive. These businesses only have a 3 month window to make enough money to last the year. They need to get going.

What is the problem anyway? Surely park staff can manage to distance, wear masks etc to make themselves relatively safe. If the campgrounds are a prob just open the back country in parks and crown land!

Speaking with an outfitter in Quebec, they expect the ZECs to allow camping soon, anticipating an announcement by next week. I will be out there almost immediately following to enjoy peak blackflies

It's not just about the park I assume - also the infrastructure needed to run them. It takes a while to ramp up for the summer. Then, they're also likely concerned on the impact opening the parks will have on travel patterns. Northern Ontario I think is faring quite well with Covid-19, and opening the backcountry might change that.

But yeah, how much more physically distant can you get than out there? That's the whole point!

I'm assuming the only reason the Crown Land camping ban is on is because they don't want people leaving the south and traveling north. Although there are summertime trailer communities up here where a bunch of people park their trailers on Crown Land, wedged in like sardines and stay until a CO tells them to be on their way. I haven't heard the real reason for it being closed down from any government types, so I guess I'll just keep guessing.

The main idea seems to be that people stay home and avoid transmission of the virus to other locations, that keeps the infection rate lower so that hospitals can have the capacity to treat the worst cases in intensive care. So far it seems to be working in Ontario.

Once there's more confidence that the system can handle the situation, the restrictions might be relaxed... OTOH pandemics in the past have had a second infection wave which has not happened with COVID yet, so if that happens, the door might be slammed shut again. OTOH people have probably had enough, and eventually are going to do whatever they please, like the 10,000 crowding Trinity Bellwoods Park in Toronto last Saturday.
