Aside 1. The Hillstrom map does not show the river-left confluence (at Portage Lake) of the Sturgeon River, likely because the Delorme Atlas & Gazetteer fails to do so.

Aside 2. Some parties do a loop trip, in principle easy because all parts of it are at the same level; but part lies on Lake Superior (exposed to the prevailing winds), suggesting a clockwise path.
