I'm looking at making a leather paddle wrap for one of my homemade paddles. I was wondering if anyone has advice or resources for doing this.

Try some tanned deer hide and wrap it. Finish with a clove hitch. Try to get it wet.

A real good source on how to do this can be found in Alex Narvey's " The Canadian Canoeing Companion" pg. 102-103 complete with illustrations, You should be able to get leather cord from Tandy leather or a similar craft store.

A good old Scout handbook should outline how to do it as well and of course there's always youtube, :)

I whip my paddles and walking sticks with 2mm cord.

Charles Burchil has put together some instruction here. I imagine you could do something similar with leather.

Thanks for the posts. This info is just what I needed. I may try the 2mm cord instead of the leather.
Martin, is that a Hemlock eagle in the pic? I love that boat.

Does someone have this book? Maybe post a copy of these two pages somewhere? Thanks

i use baseball bat tape--may not look quite as good but it protects the paddle.
