A nice version of the tripod chair is available from Cabelas at

The Helinox chairs are quite expensive. Helinox makes a number of models of chair, but the “ChairZero” is its smallest and most compact chair. See

It comes in a budget “C” model, a model with steel legs, a model with aluminum legs, and a model with aluminum legs with ski-basket like disks on their ends, which decrease the amount that the legs sink in soft dirt and sand. The last model can be seen at

For many years I used a “Crazy Creek” style of camp chair on kayak trips. These are pretty comfortable, but because you are sitting on the ground, getting up out of the chair is a bit of work. The chairs described above are a lot more comfortable, and because they hold you up off the ground, it’s quite easy to stand up out of them. And the small models don’t take up any more room than a Crazy Creek style camp chair. I just brought a Travelchair “Joey” on a 10-day 200-mile kayak trip on the Dolores River in Southwest Colorado and eastern Utah, and am totally pleased with it.
