Can't guarantee how long these links will work. I highly recommend subscribing to Caltopo. Well worth the $20.

Even the unpaid version is back to being great. There was a period (within the timelines of this thread) where the NRcan maps disappeared from Caltopo. During that time they had the USGS maps but they only covered up to 50 degrees north. Now they have them all back but they are found in the "scanned 7.5'" layer instead of a specific NRC layer as they were before.

I am looking for a source of free topo maps of canada 1:50,000. I used georgratis until recently but now it's not downloading. Can you recommend another source? I can make a shot of the screen so downloading feature is not necessary but I do need to see the gridlines and co-ordinates.

I can still view/download through this site:

http://ftp.geogratis.gc.ca/pub/nrcan_rn ... pographic/

Can't go anywhere, but I can look at the maps.

I usually find the link jmc posted by starting here

I've considered downloading the whole kaboodle, before they all go offline. I can't yet figure out how to make any use of the CanVec maps.

Maybe Caltopo will give you what you want?

You can create maps with grid lines in Caltopo.

This example uses an older (1979) raster Canmatrix map layer. The doubling up of UTM lines is because of changes since the original raster maps were printed.

Or you can use the NR Canada layer. No doubling up of grid lines but you lose some of the great detail from the older maps.
