I didn't feel like spending time to read the whole thread so I hope this is not a repeat. We do a lot of dehydrating for canoe triping and moose hunting. In the fall I often have my wifes home made jerky in my day pack for months during the moose season. It doesn't spoil and tasts awesome. Another lunch food I do not get tired of is fruit rollups. No not the crapy ones you buy at a store for kids snacks but my wifes homemade ones. She purries fruit and dries it in the dehydrator. It keeps forever and is delicious. I can't make myself stop eating the stuff. Some of the fruits we use are wild blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, cherries, peaches, even applesauce. Basically you are limited by your imagination. We dehydrate the fruit in lids from cottage cheese containers that you spray with pam so the stuff will let go when it is dry. We also make a bread before trips called trail bread that keeps for 2 weeks but not for a month. The stuff is really dense and moist and I can never eat more then 2 pieces.

Apparently this is 'almost' impervious to spoilage. I've only kept it 2 weeks, but you can try for yourself: It was developed by Alaska U. to climb Mt. Logan I believe. Anyways, its very dense, and has nearly perfect (if you believe nutritionists) nutrient ratios (60/30/10 - carb, fat, protein), and tastes great.

Ingredients:

• 6 C whole wheat flour
• ½ C milk powder
• 2 ½ C rolled oats
• 1 ½ C brown sugar
• 3 Tsp baking powder
• 2 Tsp salt
• 1 C soy grits (or flour if grits unavailable)
• 1 ¼ C chopped walnuts
• 2 C raisins
• 1 C honey
• ½ C molasses
• 3 C vegetable oil
• 6 eggs

Preparation:
• Combine dry ingredients in large bowl, remaining ing. in small bowl
• Fold wet ingredients into dry and stiry well.
• Divide mixture into 2 pans.
• Bake at 350°F for 45 minutes.
• Does not rise…

I do not know Know much about squeeze cheese but I carry Edam, Gouda, and X-old Cheddar. I find theseare good for my trips with peanut butter.

Has anyone mentioned fruitcake? Sorry, I know it's unfashionable, but it travels well, and a small amount will keep hunger away for a long time. At one time, people also thought it tasted really good.

Too sweet for lunch, but great for dinner's dessert.
It's a great excuse to generously shop for christmas cake when they are in season. What's left over, gets cut into 2-portion chunks and stored in the freezer for the summer.
