When I set out to make my own grills for my Black Spruce Gear fireboxes I wanted to make a grill with all the features of a Purcell type grill (i.e. hollow tube stainless steel, TIG welded, ultralight etc) but at an affordable price. I now understand why they are so expensive. No doubt they are worth every penny, but I hoped I could produce one at a much lower price. Welding, especially TIG welding, is beyond my capabilities and sourcing hollow tube stainless steel was near impossible.

I did come up with a stainless steel grill (15 x 8") slightly smaller than the GSI grill, and made of solid core stainless steel with a .1875 dia. single frame with grids of .156 dia at 1 1/4" and 3/4" centers. Because of the solid core it weighs about 15 oz. But at $25. it's a fair trade off than the ultra lights.

I'm still dreaming of making a hollow tube grill one of these days, but for now, I'll happily use my stainless steel Canadian-Made grill.

Art.
