Our group of 6 is tripping in algonquin for 4 nights. I need some advice on how to plan the meals. Not necessarily on what to eat but how to go about planning and deligating.

Personally I find the meal planning the hardest and being the designated organizer of the trip I need a strategy.

I was thinking about dividing up the meals and designating 2 people for each meal. (every pair is responsible for a breakfast/lunch/dinner). This seems like a good idea but will be tricky when food shopping and packing if there is no common ingredients on the meals. (I don't want extra weight of doubled up items.)

Any advice would be appreciated.

you doing specific theme like single pass or ultra light?
if not I wouldn't worry about weight. It's 4 nights. Unless there's a single food barrel? hand each pair a sobey's bag....this is what your entire supply must fit in.
send out serving sizes..... one serving of rice pasta ect is such and such dry
unless you plan the entire set of meals (and really, it's about sharing)
then there is little possibility of taking advantage of left over rice for a wee bit of pudding in the morning....or instant mashed latkas in the morning (my appologies to Pake, i can't speel in english either  )
day 1 break lunch supper
day 1 X c2 c3
day 2 c3 c1 c2
day 3 c2 c3 c1
day 4 c1 whne are you off lake?

make sure someone who drinks coffee is in charge of bringing it and whatever you brew it in
if someone has a "die for" fresh meal specialty give them the first supper
mail out your allergies and super dislikes so people can adjust recipies
I'm not a weight watcher, there are some folks here who are experts, hope they give you some pointers

We used to all fight over the stove or the fire as well as covet what the other person was eating ( Hmnn you have steak and I have hot dogs, wanna share?)...That all went away when each group of two was responsible for a meal for all of us..its now less costly , less bulky and therefore less heavy, and we all eat at the same time! Also no -one "owes" money to someone else at the end of the trip.

Here is my suggestion:
Each Party is a group of two:
Party #1- Dinner- 2 Nights ( First and last )
Party #2- Dinner 1 night -Lunch -2 days
Party #3- Dinner 1 night- Lunch 2 days

I equated 2 lunches for the price of one dinner and everyone is on their own for breakfast...I found breakfast is a very personal thing with some folks enjoying oatmeal and others just bagels and peanut butter. If you are all coffee drinkers then combine.

We tend to do it a bit different from GB.
Breakfast and Dinner grouping for each couple.
Lunches on your own.
Coffee drinkers do their thing unless everyone is addicted.
Breakfast makers need to know that they need hot water for both coffee AND tea.

I like Hugh's adaptations of GB's in meals shared...on the water is singular.
it will make your balance sheet even too. In fact, I might move to this set up as river travelers usually do cold lunches....or power bars and snacks...
The only reminder is to gather up individual food soft poches for the barrel each night along with garbage?
