I noticed that Lee Valley is selling a Nesco fd-61 dehydrator(500 watts). On this forum the Nesco fd-75(700 watts) is the most recomended.
Would the lower wattage make that much of a difference in drying times or quality.
I will be drying mostly meal type things.Chili stew, and hamburger/pasta combinations.

I think you just need to watch your batch size and not overload it and keep the layers of chili thin.

I was reading some reviews and found I can use my dehydrator and orange peels to make firestarters. :o

and to help with bread dough rising in the winter.

I have one of the Lee Valley units and it works great. I make tons of jerky and often fill all 4 trays to the max with meat and ground beef. I use the ground in my pasta meals and it works good.

I dried some beef stew makings too and that worked out ok as well. I am still getting the hang of this dehydrating thing but it looks very promising.
