Spring better come soon! Cabin fever set in a while ago and thoughts have turned to 2014 trips. Dehydrator's been running overtime for the past several weeks and starting to get quite the supply of food in the freezer. I commandeered the kitchen most do the weekend. Put in onions, diced tomatoes, 10 lbs of potatoes tomato paste, celery.... And yams prepping in the oven right now.

Trying something new this year - dehydrating Manwhich. Going to try making sloppy joes with dehydrated beef and use naan bread to tortilla shells.

The manwhich will dehydrate well. Of course it is easy and very inexpensive to make your own (not canned) from scratch, complete with low-fat ground meat of your choice (low fat will dehydrate better and keep longer). Add some grated parmesan cheese to the sauce before dehydrating, Combine with some home dehydrated refried beans (use the low fat canned version) for a hearty meal. This was one of our favorite meals on the Yukon.

Cool! Will have to give that a try. With the beans sounds like a good idea.

Already have 4 lbs of ground beef done.

I too have begun the dehydrating. So far...spaghetti sauce, chilli, and a huge batch of chicken which I have cooked, shredded & dehydrated in preparation for use in other dishes.

Next up...Beef & Guinness Stew.

Beef and Guinness stew would be unreal on a canoe trip!

MrBabelfish5 on YouTube has some interesting recipes I am going to try. He even has a BBQ spaghetti meal he makes, I'm gonna give it a whirl.

My wife bought me the 'Dehydrating Bible' for Christmas. Has a ton of recipes and suggestions.
