With fish on the menu every day of my recent trip to Woodland Caribou, I got creative to keep my meals interesting. Pike and Pancake Tacos, Stuffed Lake Trout and Thai Green Curried Walleye were my favourites. Here is the video

Hey Shawn, just wanted to say that you're trip to woodland Caribou with Joe looked like one epic time. My jaw dropped at the size of fish you two caught, and the frequency at which you where pulling them out of the water. I found both of your cooking fish various ways to be informative.

As somebody new to the backcountry, that doesn't have a mentor, I have learned so much from you two about backcountry camping. Both of you have inspired me to get out of drive in campgrounds a find a more rewarding camping experience. However, I was wondering why you haven't done a video on how to clean fish? This is one area that I have no knowledge of, but would like to become better at. I know that I can read about it online, but it'd be great to have a step by step video.

As for a recipe, I tried BBQing some perch and pickerel wrapped in foil covered with salt, pepper, minced garlic, dill seasoning, and some chopped spring onions. It was quite good, but next time I do this recipe, I'm not going to add the spring onions until after I finish cooking the fish.

Thanks for following along!

That recipe sound great and I agree, onion can be too overpowering to cook in foil.

I have fish cleaning in some of my videos, but I get too much hate when I include it, which is why I haven't done a specific video. Same with wild game - I have plenty of footage already filmed but I'm hesitant to publish it.
Check out my spring Algonquin video on Catfish Lake last year, and my stuffed trout recipe video - I think I show the process I use there.

Thanks for that tip. Its really a shame that you get pressured like that, but I guess that's the way she goes nowadays. Watching your recommended vids now.

Shawn, your comment about the risk of being inundated with hate-responses after showing fish cleaning footage boggles my mind. That there are people who are more than happy to vicariously enjoy someone's fresh fish recipes, but who are, at the same time, deeply offended by the killing, cleaning, and processing of the fish itself prior to its actual cooking, baking, grilling, etc., well, to borrow Robert Plant's lyric, "Oooh, really makes me wonder!" Good ideas in the recipes, by the way!
