Okay here's an idea for the short weekender / Base Camping trip and food choices are fresh and maybe even greasy.

Take some spuds ( potatoes ) with you on your trip and toss them into the campfire wrapped with foil.

After they are done, stash them for the morning...

Now you need some Pork Fat.... well Bacon!

Cook up your bacon and save the remaining fat to use here.

Get the pan nice and hot as you slice up your spuds into tater sized wedges.

Cook wedges in Pork fat until Golden brown and season to taste.

You can't beat this for a major dose of grease to get things going

Warning! don't over do it and don't do this all the time, or you won't enjoy your next outing!

Georgi

Winter camping version: cook a pan of bacon & a pot of porridge / eat bacon / pour leftover bacon fat into porridge, add brown sugar & eat.

Caution: neither recipe is recommended by the Canadian Heart and Stroke foundation as "Heart Smart" dining choices

Best use for bacon fat is to fry bagels in it. My favorites are pumpernickel and cinnamon raisin. Topped with a couple strips of bacon, it's absolutely marvelous, but recommended for not more than one trip per year, as 3 or 4 times may close one's arteries permanently. This delicacy is known in the UK as "fried slice"
