A highway already exists but travel time is slowed by ferries crossing the fjords. Tunnels and bridges are proposed.

Norway is pretty much the only place in the world I want to go outside of Canada ...

Norway knows how to tunnel. I will never forget forget driving 15 miles in their longest one. They changed the color of the lighting every few miles to keep you sane.

Can anyone compare the Coastal Highway with the Ring Road in Iceland? I know I'll never see either one, just asking mind you.

World's largest ship tunnel is also going to be built... Vikings in Valhalla probably looking on and celebrating that their offspring are doing so well, lots of feasting, drinking and killing.

The figures are staggering, not only regarding its total cost, estimated around the EUR 300 million mark, but also because the procedure will result in the displacement of around eight million tons of rock. All this will lead way to a remarkable 1.7 km long, 50 m tall, 36 m wide tunnel.

not at all alike .. The Ring Road has a couple of tunnels but goes through neither the Eastfjords nor the Westfjords.
Both have tunnels ( West has alot) and they are quite different. They go through mountains . They are one lane with turnouts for passing oncoming cars.
Along the fjords the roads follow the coastline making some breathtaking scenery and yes you can drive an hour to find yourself a few km from where you were.

Ring Road has one tunnel which we did not take It replaced a ferry in 1998 Our drive around Iceland took a month and covered some 4000 km. Mostly off the Ring Road.

13500 meters is long enough.. I was getting claustrophobia!

would love to return and go to Norway via Denmark from Seydisfjordur IS.. the latter a neat port with a real Irish pub..
