Post subject:  Does Langford actually make canoes?

I have read a fair bit here and there about Langford outsourcing most of their production these days.

Do they actually make canoes anymore and if so where is their factory?

Just curious ...

2 years ago I saw a wonderful specimen of a Langford on a truck at Point Pelee National park. I walked up to it and admired its glossy perfection. Then surmised it probably never actually came off the truck top it was nestled on, snuggled with copious foam blocks between gunnel and metal. They are like real world unicorns. They exist, are wonderful, but for looksee only :)

I'm not sure you understood my post. I know there are canoes being made under the Langford name, but I'm asking whether or not there is really a Langford factory or do they outsource all their boats? i.e. do they have 3rd parties do the manufacturing. Because reports are that a lot of their boats are outsourced.

It's my understanding that everything is contracted out to canoe makers in Quebec.

If you ever get a chance, have a talk with John Kilbridge in Temagami. He's a fascinating man who knows all the ins and outs of the canoe building industry and can tell you everything you ever wanted to know.
