I have discovered that there is such a thing as pasta, various kinds, that you just add water, hot OR cold, and voila....it's ready. No cooking needed.

Anyone ever hear of this and is it available in Canada? I have found some but only in the UK.

I have read of lightweight backpackers making their own "instant" by cooking regular pasta and then dehydrating it.

I just used rice sticks(fine)for the first time in a Thai stir fry. The noodles can be dropped into boiling water, set to the side off the heat, and just soak for 2-5 minutes and then drain.

Couscous is a kind of pasta that only needs boiling water poured on it too. Look in the ethnic section of your grocery store.

I'm wondering if the tiny star shaped pasta could also be "cooked" in the same manner?

I use ramen noodles (I throw away the freze dried acid rain "flavor packet) to make a no cook pasta salad for lunch. Just add water, let sit for 5 minutes, drain excess water, add salad dessing (those packs from a fast food joint work well), cheese, pepperoni, etc.

I have thought these might also work for a quick spaghetti dinner, although I have yet to try it.

I've found that the tiny pasta bits usually used in soups cook very quickly, if they'll work for your recipe. I like any pasta with some olive oil and garlic(powder is okay). Couscous is also pasta and will cook with only the addition of boiling water and a cozy.
