Has anyone any experience with dehydrating canned corned beef? I don't want to carry a can to mix with dehydrated spuds and onion to make hash.

I LOVE corned beef hash - it's one of my favorite tripping breakfast foods.
My favorite is the Puritan brand of Corned Beef Hash.

I've often thought of trying to dehydrate it but have never tried:
My concern has always been that it has too high of a fat content.

I'd love to hear if anyone has had success with this.

Hey Mike....I tried it...I love the Puritan brand of corned beef hash,,,,but way too much fat and the potato in it doesnt rehydrate well! Better to just bring the can with ya than go to the trouble of rehydrating it. and it just doesnt taste right when rehydrated...something off!

I've done the corned beef hash both ways - dehydrated beef and straight from the can . Yes the amount of fat is astounding , but what really surprised me was the reduction in volume when all that beef had dried out and the fat was removed.!.To keep the flavor up , if I were drying the CB , I'd leave in some of the fat -just make sure your packaging is tight . As for my druthers , I'd just take the can and deal with it -they're flimsy and flatten easily when empty. Great meal - I think I make it on every trip.
