1 cup oats (any kind) ground in a blender or food processor.
tsp. Baking Powder
Dash of salt.
3 or 4 Tbls. Milk Powder.
ground flax or ground nuts or whatever you prefer.

Put together in bag. In camp add water stir and cook in pan.
These are the best pancakes I have eaten. Oats has more fat than wheat and more calories. Cooked in oil adds more. Don't eliminate the milk powder or they won't brown. Weight loss is a problem for skinny long-distance trippers and these can help redress the balance. And oats is good for you. Ever seen a dead Scotsman? OK one, but he ran out of whisky or forgot to eat his porridge.
Anything and everything can be added to these pancakes depending on taste and need.

That is a totally different pancake recipe than I have ever tried.
I wish I needed calories. :oops:

But it sounds good! especially with blueberries!

I was introduced to oat based pancakes on a canoe trip years ago and they are still my favourite.

I like them with currents or raisons.

I love oats, but have never thought of using them in pancakes. I'll give it a try. Thanks Stencil. Maple syrup will be a natural fit as it is on porridge.

I am somewhat of a pancake connoisseur. I have always mixed oats in my dry mix but this intrigues me. I have seen oat flour and may try that next time. The healthy part goes downhill as soon as I use amber grade maple syrup! Thanks for the recipe i will try it Sunday.

Since our fully natural February torrential rains are washing away my backcountry skiing dreams, and our Ontario Thames River is swelling into a Mississippi levee-breaking tsunami__but Donald and his friends say it's NOT Global warming, so I guess it's not__I decided tonight to make a small batch of the oatmeal pancake lovingly described above by Stencil. Seriously, the wind is really howling out there as warm rain splashes and thumps against my window! I ground up half a cup of oats in the coffee grinder, added a heaping teaspoonful of the life-prolonging, hormone-free flax, half a teaspoon of baking powder and a heaping tablespoon of dried milk. I added some water. I whisked the mixture to a frothy smoothness. I added a bit more water, and whisked some more. The batter looked like batter and acted like batter when poured into the hot n' flimsy teflon pan. The result: a pancake. Nicely brown, good texture, and healthy in looks and in concept. Even with the butter and store-bought jam I spread parsimoniously on top. I am Scottish, after all, and yer nay gonna be wasteful then spend eternity roasting in the fires o' hell! The taste: excellent. Thanks for sharing your recipe, Stencil. I will be substituting Aunt Jemima's industrial pancake mix with your fine nutritious recipe this summer. My teenaged son, food critic extraordinaire, had this to say: "Not bad". That's two thumbs up on this rain-drenched February night.

At home I always add an egg. You could trip with a chicken. I tried that but one night after a dram too many and insufficient ova production the fowl ended up on the barbie. Wait a minute. I wonder if it was a rooster?

I trip with powdered eggs and when I want to make pancakes from my bannock mix I just add a large pinch.

I made them this morning. I did however use real milk as I was all out of delicious milk powder. I was pleased with the recipe. I did notice that these cook at least twice as fast as the normal white flour flapjack.
