I had almost a week of free time left before work started again, so I went to Rogen national park in Sweden. The plan was simple: go to the logical start point (Kärringsjön, right by the right side of the map below), put boat into water and go where fancy led me. I decided to skip the lake Rogen, which is large, shallow and exposed to sudden high winds from the mountains, and instead concentrate on the smaller lakes north of it. I ended up following most of the shoreline of most of the lakes (I think I was on every one of them, with the exception of some of the really tiny ones).

Rogen is tucked in right by the mountains, and thus can get windy. The lakes are at over 750 m elevation, and the treeline is not much higher than that, so the forest is quite sparse and stunted.

It was a solo trip, with my Old Town Tripper canoe and a pack, and I took it easy. Since this was small lakes there were quite a few portages, but none longer than about 4-500 m, and most less than 50 m. I had some very calm times during the furst part of the trip (in particular evening and mornings, less so during daytime). When I got out on the larger lakes in the west side of the system (Öster-Rödsjön and Väster-Rödsjön) the wind was on the fresh side, with the waves breaking here and there. Still quite manageable solo, but going against the wind still took some effort (I secretly love that kind of paddling, I get into a mindfullness like state where all you think of is the lake, the canoe, the wind, your paddle strokes and the waves). I went as far west as the islands in the middle of Väster-Rödsjön, and then turned back, exploring new shores, coves and islands.

Nice looking country. Are you allowed to use fire when tripping?

Very interest landscape. Those small lakes to the right look like a maze! Could you climb those 2 big hills?

Here's what I can offer in return(Part of the Temagami area in Ont.) :D
