I'm considering spending 3 or 4 days on the French around Labour Day this year, but I notice that there is no reservation system for campsites.
Anyone have experience grabbing a site there on/around a long weekend? My assumption was that it would be impossible to get a site, similar to Kawartha Highlands or Tom Thomson L. But if they haven't implemented a reservation system I guess they figure it's not needed?
Any tips at all would be helpful. Thanks in advance!

So far, on any french river trip I have taken i have never had an issue finding a campsite. I think it's an under utilized park.

no reservation system.. Some campsites were affected by forest fires last year. Labour Day is not particularly busy.. School you know.

Actually, on a Canada Long weekend trip in the French River a few years ago the sites up to the Dalles Rapids were most taken. We had taken a site the day prior, and we had several people stop trying to squat on our site with us! Later, wardens came by, checking permits.
They do not limit the number of permits issued in the park, and you cannot camp except on designated camp sites (not crown land rules).
If you do go on a long weekend, expect to have to paddle fairly far to get a site, and don't expect the prime 'elbow' sites to be open. After the rapids (portage), some open up.
The fire only effected sites east of Fox Lake.
