View topic - Opinions on Clear Water Design Kawartha

I know this is out of the league of most of you - but one just came up on kijiji for $450 and it might be a good choice for my Scout troop. Based on the shape of it, it looks like it would handle reasonably well on flat water and be no worse than some of the other ones we have.

Their website does not list weight but I found one site which says 69lbs, which is not terrible. We have a Nova Craft SP3 that is at least that heavy, and a Langford plastic as well. The up site of these things for a scout troop is they are pretty indestructible and maintenance free.

I'm just wondering more about handling on the water. Anyone know anything?

I owned one for a month or two. Bought it slightly used and very dirty, cheap. Loaded it with sand bags and sunlight to correct a horrible case of oil-canning/reverse rocker that was probably the result of the previous owner's leaving the boat stored gunwhales down with heavy snow accumulating on the hull. The hull didn't want to be corrected, and had a fondness for returning to its habitual bent shape. Thought it would be a decent beater or loaner, but then un-thought that, and re-sold it, cheap, with all new SS hardware: all seat and thwart bolts, etc. had rusted rotten. I never paddled her, and suspect that I didn't miss much. And don't believe the claimed weight. She's a hefty one.

I just heard back from Clearwater and they said 75lbs

Hi Prospector, did you end up purchasing? Another one came up on Kijiji that fits my price range. I'm looking for a used starter for myself and know that the lightweight ones are out of my price range right now. I'm a novice tripper, lakes and rivers (no whitewater).

Nope never bought it.
